  • Hi.. I'm Linda Otiende; a Personal Style Blogger. I think fashion and style is all about creativity; playing around with what you have to create something unique and stylish out of it. Blogging about my personal style is an interest I developed about three years ago when I discovered that as ladies, we really go to certain extremes to look good. Yes, we gotta look good but at the end of the day that does not mean that we have to wear the most expensive clothes or shoes to be stylish. You can actually work it out in the cheapest of them yet still ooze class! So welcome to my blog where I will get to show you my personal style and how I manage to look good on a budget. I do hope you enjoy.

Can't imagine we are actually a few days into the month of November which basically means 2015 is almost coming to a close. This year has most definitely gone so fast and woe unto you if you are the kind to procrastinate; the year might just end with you having accomplished basically nothing. So leave procrastination to the lazy bones! Do it now when you still have the zeal. Wake up, work hard, fall, get up again and persist. The only way you can learn is if you fail and never give up.

So today's post is all about Midis. Midi skirts have taken the fashion world by storm and I like how elegant and classy they make a lady look especially when worn with heels. They are actually very easy to wear and can be worn both during the day and at night. They show just the right amount of leg whether fitting or not.

For today's look I decided to wear the skirt with a mustard vest I got from Mr Price and I absolutely loved the outcome. Mustard is most definitely a color that is fun to play around with and will brighten any outfit.

    Enjoy today's post..

As ladies, we all have an addiction when it comes to shopping; whether clothes, shoes or make up.

One minute you are in a matatu at Ngara and you see clothes vendors selling clothes for as little as 50 Kshs and you can't help but alight. Before you realize it, you are going home with a new pair of jeans, a chiffon blouse and shoes. Another day you are on Instagram scrolling through pics and you come across this page that is selling heels for 2500 Kshs ; a pair you saw at another shop for double the price and you immediately get yourself a pair; after all they are half the price. Another day you see your friend with this awesome Ankara skirt and you ask her where she got it from and she tells you her tailor made it for her and within a week you are rocking a similar one.

I am a victim and I have been caught up in such situations a number of times but hey!I am slowly coming out of it and am proud to say that I can go for a whole month without shopping aimlessly for lack of a better word.

So ladies I wanna share a few tips on how to shop on a budget so you don't end up fasting because you used all your lunch money to buy a pair of Louboutin heels.

    1. Buy only what you need
I know thrifting is quite the addiction especially because of the low bargains but it doesn't mean that when I visit Gikomba and come across a dress for 100 Kshs that I should buy 6 just because its cheap. No! The first thing you should ask yourself is whether you really need those 6 dresses? Furthermore, most of us end up buying so many clothes yet at the end of the day we don't put them on. What you actually get from having too many is hours of frustration looking for the perfect dress. So ladies even if its as low as 50 Kshs, buy it because you need it.

    2. Go for the Wardrobe Staples
For the few months I've been a fashion blogger, one thing I've learnt when it comes to shopping is to stick to the staples. Trends are a no go zone for me...Why? At the end of the day what's trendy will eventually stop being trendy then what? It becomes outdated and you won't put it on again.

So ladies, invest in a timeless piece and believe me you will never be caught in a situation where you don't have something to wear just because what you have is not for that particular occasion. By timeless pieces here I mean the LBD, a fitting blazer, a white tee, blue/black denim, a pencil skirt, classic pumps etc. You can create so many outfit combinations by just having these staples. Say if I had blue jeans and a white tee, I would wear it as casual wear then turn it into formal by throwing in a black blazer, classic black pumps and a handbag and perhaps tuck in the white tee and voila!

    3. Shop out of season
It is interesting that many of us actually wait for the rainy season to buy trench coats, heavy sweaters and boots. What you don't realize is that during such seasons, prices of such clothing become so expensive. You get a trench coat for as high as 1500 yet if bought during the hot season you would otherwise get 5 for the same price. Interesting, isn't it? So ladies, shop out of season because that way you get away with huge discounts. Who doesn't love a bargain after all?

    4. Speaking of discounts, if at any given point you hear your favorite store is having a 50% off sale, go for it. If need be, subscribe to your favorite online stores so you get alerts when the sales are on. Just 2 weeks ago, Maybelline were having a 50% off sale on their makeup products and I managed to get something for myself. And last week, a site called Tiqueabouclothing were also having a 50% off sale on all their clothing. You should check them out..they got awesome stuff. Yet still JUMIA has been having this 30% off beauty sale on some of their products. Ladies take advantage of these sales!

    5. If you are the kind to keep your money till mid month then believe you me this is the best time to shop. When it gets to mid month, a number of people are normally broke and would rather spend their money in better ways than shopping. So if you are the saving type, this is the best time to go shopping. This is the time ladies to exercise your bargaining skills and bargain from as much as 1500  Kshs to 500 Kshs. Most shopping places actually lack customers during this time as opposed to end month when they are up to the rafters because apparently everyone has been paid.

    6. Play with accessories.
Accessories have a great way of changing a look. Investing say in a statement neck piece can save you the hustle of looking for a new dress. Just by adding a bold neck piece and earings to a plain LBD can do wonders..yes it can.! And by accessories here I do not mean jewelry alone, I am talking about belts, scarves, hats, watches etc. So invest in the right pieces and you will thank me later :-)

Ladies its time you shopped smart. Don't get yourself into huge debts as a result of not budgeting.

Whoever said winning isn't everything obviously wasn't fighting breast cancer ~ Unknown

October is the Breast Cancer Awareness Month and its unfortunate that while many of us ladies may be aware of the existence of this disease, we forget to take safety precautions by going for examination. Breast cancer has become the most common form of cancer among women and its sad that it is killing innocent lives; from young ladies to our very own mothers. Because of that, October has been set aside to raise awareness because if detected earlier you can actually get treatment and live a normal healthy life.

In as much as most of you may argue that you are too young to get it, truth of the matter is cancer doesn't choose; anybody can get it. In fact just the other day I was being told of a case of a 22 year old who was diagnosed with breast cancer. Can you imagine just when your life starts to fall into place and all of a sudden your health can't allow you to live your dreams?Very sad, isn't it? So ladies its time you set your priorities right. Your health comes first. Go get mammogrammed and encourage your friends and family to do the same.

This post is therefore dedicated to anyone who has lost a family member, close relative or friend through breast cancer or any form of cancer. And for those battling breast cancer do not give up..once you choose hope, anything is possible. You have cancer but cancer does not have you!

We are living in a generation where ladies are going to certain extremes just to change the way they look. Just because you are not curvy in all the right places or skinny as a model doesn't mean you aren't beautiful. It shouldn't in any way change the way you feel about yourself because the minute you start comparing yourself to others you will never be satisfied with yourself.

It is said that comparison is the worst form of violence and I totally agree. Comparing yourself to others will just make you numb to all the other awesome things about yourself. You will spend the rest of your life trying to be like so and so.. So ladies I want to challenge you today to look at the mirror, smile and feel confident about yourself. Slim or curvy, short or tall, dark or light-skinned.. you are beautiful!

Speaking of curves, I will be featuring a beautiful lady on the blog today by the name Charlotte Nyachucha. A 20 something year old whose sense of style is just out of this world! She is trendy and knows just how to dress her curves. She is the true definition of beauty.. and her warm smile will just brighten you up. Am so glad to have been granted this opportunity to feature her..Thanks Charlotte!Keep slaying!..:-)

So let's get to meet her..

It's unfortunate that many of us focus on what we don't have and fail to appreciate what we have yet what we don't realize is that someone else is actually praying for what we have. So use what you have now to do what you can..small steps turn into miles.

Focusing on today's look, I decided to style the same black dress I featured on my previous post in another way. This is a look you can wear say for a wedding, to church etc.

Enjoy and do have a blessed month:-)
